We went to a parking lot we have already been to on our previous visit, but this time we entered from another side, and we destroyed the discharge valve at the bottom of our grey water tank that sits under the chassis. This is the least famous valley in Cappadocia and you can ride the hot air ballons for a cheaper fair. We didn't do that and instead we walk the whole valley, which is more a canyon than a valley. We managed to catch the bus to go back to our camper, a very stressfull experience because there are no timetables or information online, the ticket guy from the castle told us that in theory the bus should arrive.

A quick afternoon stop here to visit the most extensive subterranean city ever built. The rock is the same of the rest of Cappadocia, so fairly easy to dig and shape. Sadly the part open to tourists is quite limited, 2% of the whole underground structure and it is void of any explanation, so personally I didn't really liked it. But here I bought 2 amazing traditional tea pots made of copper.

Here in Gaziantep, there is the biggest mosaic museum in the world. It focuses on Roman and Byzantine mosaics, which were dug from several locations in the region. In my opinion one of the most impressive museums. I was not expecting mosaics from 2000 years ago to be so vibrant and full of details. It is really a lost art.

Old Volcano crater ‐ Mar 27, 2025

We found this location by chance in park4night, and I'm so glad we did. It's a series of ancient volcanoes, composed of a peak at the center of a crater, and we managed to park on top of the crater. The ascent to the peak was very challenging, with a gradient of more than 45% and a soft soil made with small and round volcanic rocks. We had to wait for the sunset to be able to climb without burning.

The husband of the woman preparing the Gozleme was probably the only person speaking English in that remote village and it was delightful to ask so many questions about life in rural Turkey.

Well, we were supposed to meet with a French couple at Chimera's peak, to eat marshmallows on the naturally occurring gas flames, but unfortunately, we had an issue with the van; A lot of white smoke was coming from the engine after a long ascent. Long story short, the exhaust filter is dirty and this is a totally normal phenomena, but it took as a day + a trip to the mechanic to learn it.

Unfortunately, we got scammed, as they close the access to the beach, but they don't say it, so you pay to enter, park the van and get the ride to the beach....but then you cannot enter the beach, only look at it from far away. Our plan B was to go on the other side of the lake, where you can park on the beach, but there is the downside that twice a lady with many goats and 7 huge dogs comes through.

The best archeological site we visited in our trip, Turkish sites are much better organized than Greek sites. Aphrodisias was a big city during ancient Greek and Roman times, with an estimated population of 40k. It was destroyed by a series of earthquakes. It was the first time that we could enter an ancient Circus that was so well preserved, and it was an astonishing experience. Also, probably it would have been the best ball throwing location for Baco, but sadly he couldn't enter.

We failed, as we didn't reach the highest point, but we had ramen at 2050m inside a rock igloo, which is still amazing. We also came back to the van that was dark already, luckily it was a fool moon, we had headlamps and Baco apparently is a guide dog, since he knew all the way down by heart.

This is the canyon with the highest depth/width ratio in the world, 1km wide and 700m deep. We parked nearby where we could visit some peculiar rock formations made of layers like a millefoglie cake. While photographing the canyon we met 20 people who mounted a slack line between the two edges of the canyon, a 1km long slackline that takes 40 minutes to walk in one direction. I don't have pics of old Bar, apart from the Orthodox cathedral, which was impressive. What I have ais a pic of our engine starter, which decided to break down here. We then discovered that if you call the insurance from abroad you pay 1 euro per minute. Luckily by hitting the starter with a hammer, we managed to reach a mechanic. It took them 2 days to order the piece and fix the problem, and the owner actually speak Italian, which was nice.

We decided not to drive down to the bay of Kotor as it is always full of traffic, but instead to hike to a viewpoint to admire it from above. We also took some time to finally attach the country flag we got back in Durmitor from a fellow traveller. It's a bit basic, but I still like it, and it's a great conversation started when meeting people.

We spent quite some time in Podgorica, we had several things to buy because this was the first big city we had been in since the start of our journey. The Spanish couple we met at Vesko campsite is also here, waiting for a piece of their engine that broke, so we spent all this time together. It was nice to have dinner or lunch together. Here we also managed to repair a leakage we had on the roof, caused by the screws of the solar panel.

This is one of the most beautiful national parks in Montenegro home to giant trees...sadly summer is not the best season to visit, the beautiful lake is almost dry, and the giant trees are....who knows where, there are no paths in this forest...and they ask for 20 euros to sleep there...so we stayed only one afternoon.
